Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of cakes do you make?
All kinds! Wedding, birthday, shower, just because it’s Tuesday cakes… you name it!
How far in advance do I need to place my order?
Signature cakes may be reserved with 48 hours’ notice. Our custom and wedding cakes are amazing creations that require a serious amount of time to make. For that reason, it’s preferred that orders be finalized at least 2 weeks before the event date. Please note, we book up quickly during the Spring and Fall!
Will my cake come in a box?
Yes! Your cake will come in a box however custom-sized boxes for each and every size of cake are not always available. In the case that your cake doesn’t fit into a closed box, the lid will be taped down to cover as much as possible OR removed altogether in order to prevent the box from harming the cake in any way. Please note that this means that your cake will be exposed to the open air in your car, but no more so than it will be at your party location.
How do I carry my cake home?
Be sure that your car is large enough and has a flat, level space with access to air conditioning for the duration of the ride. If your cake is a smaller, single tier cake, it should fit on the floorboard of your car. It’s good to have an extra person with you for stacked, multi-tier cakes to help you load and unload the cake (not to ride in their lap). Use your AC year-round but ESPECIALLY in the summer heat. Drive slowly and directly to your destination – no sharp turns, no pit stops. Once at your destination, refrigerate until the start of your event. Please be mindful to keep any sweets with icing or chocolate out of and away from direct sunlight.
Do you offer cake tastings?
Due to COVID-19, we have temporarily suspended in-person cake tastings as a precautionary measure. However, tasting boxes are available for pick up. Please contact us for more information regarding setting up a consultation and preselected cake samples: order@ninabakescakes.com
Why are wedding and custom sculpted cakes so expensive?
We get asked this question a lot! Wedding and custom sculpted cakes can seem very costly, however, they are very labor-intensive to create. The work begins with the designing, planning, and discussion with you so that the cake is exactly as you dream. Each cake then requires hours (often days) of work in preparation, baking, leveling and filling, even before the decoration is added. The decorative work is equally as labor-intensive, if not more. Simple cakes can often be rather deceiving and require a lot more work than meets the eye. On average, these cakes take the best part of a week to complete – much longer if there are lots of sugar flowers to make! We do not mass produce our cakes, neither do we use preservatives. Our cakes are known for being absolutely delicious and this comes down to the quality of the ingredients we use, which also comes at a price. We take great pride in executing intricate and glamorous details on our wedding and sculpted cakes and as with any custom craftsmanship, the quality of our work is reflected in the price of our cakes. We can assure you that we (and most other reputable cake artists) are not charging more “just because it’s a wedding or sculpted cake.”
